First Chant Daimoku by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

First Chant Daimoku by SGI President Daisaku Ikeda

FIRST, chant daimoku.
FIRST, chant daimoku.
First, be in good health.
First, work cheerfully.
First, establish your finances.
And first, take the initiative.

“SUCH-and-such is sick. So-and-so is suffering financially. I must do my best to give them encouragement.” To think in this way, to offer prayers and take action for others’ happiness – this is the behaviour of a Buddhist. Those who make efforts to bring joy to others even though they may be suffering themselves are bodhisattvas.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----

"In discussing the three obstacles ((the obstacles of earthly desires, karma, and retribution) and four devils (the hindrances of earthly desires, the five components, death, and the devil king) that beset practitioners of Buddhism, President Toda often used to say: 'You may be able to triumph over the three obstacles and the first three devils or hindrances, which includes even death, but the last one--the devil king--is truly formidable.'

"As we also see in other writings of the Daishonin,  the devil king manipulates the minds of arrogant lay people and arrogant priests and possesses the bodies of arrogant false sages who in turn influence the ruling authorities to harass and persecute the votary of the Lotus Sutra.

"Elsewhere, the Daishonin states: 'The single word 'belief' is the sharp sword with which one confronts and overcomes fundamental darkness or ignorance' (OTT, 119-20). Mr. Toda also frequently emphasised: 'The sharp sword of faith is the only means for defeating the devil king of the sixth heaven.' When we vanquish fundamental darkness or ignorance through faith in the Mystic Law, the  fundamental nature of enlightenment, or Dharma nature, with which our life is inherently endowed, will well forth. The Dharma nature is the ultimate truth of all phenomena to which the Buddha became awakened.

"Attaining Buddhahood, in a sense, means winning in this struggle between darkness and enlightenment. Through the practice of shakubuku, those who uphold the Lotus Sutra can bring forth the fundamental nature of enlightenment in their own lives and help others do the same."

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Strengthen your faith day by day and month after month. Should you slacken in your resolve even a bit, devils will take advantage."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Respectful conduct towards others like that epitomised by Bodhisattva Never Disparaging in the Lotus Sutra. A strong commitment unshaken by any opposition or obstacle. A readiness to stand up against inhumanity and injustice. A wonderful example of winning trust in our immediate environment and promoting understanding of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. Through such daily efforts as SGI members, we are engaging in a lofty spiritual struggle to refute the erroneous and reveal the true. I wish to declare that such efforts constitute the practice of shakubuku in modern times."

BUCS Weekend

Wow what a weekend!! Let me start from Thursday.
It all started with my journey to Sheffield. The journey there was fine, that was until I got into Sheffield city centre. That was when my sat nav took me on the journey of hell, round & round in circles, trying to find my hotel. After driving round in circles for an hour I suddenly stumbled upon the hotel. I finally got to bed about midnight!!!

Friday now i set off giving myself 45 mins to get to the venue, which I'm surprised I reach in 10 mins, but wait the sat nav tells me I've arrived, but I'm sitting outside the bus centre!!! I ask for directions, which send me out of town!! I decide to phone the lead physio & tell him i might be late, as I can't find venue. At this point he tells me that sat navs don't work in the centre of town as the town centre has been redesigned and all sat navs haven't been updated!! Great, so I drive round, and round, and round for nearly an hour until I accidentally come across the turning.
Once I'm in though I have a great day. Can't elaborate more than that for confidentiality reasons.

Saturday. Early start. I put my faith in the sat nav again.......you guessed it. It takes me nowhere near where I'm supposed to go. I cuss and I swear. I meet a very nice lady who points in the right direction. Me & the sat nav are now having a full blown argument. I win as I lock it in the glove compartment!!!
Another good day. At the end we go to HQ. I get lost again & end up behind where i want to be at Rotherham FC's ground!!
Anyway meeting goes well. I find out what the criteria will be to be chosen to work at the Olympics. That is my big determination, to be part of the 2012 Olympics.

Sunday passes, it's actually a bit of an anti climax compared to the other 3 days. I head home 3hr drive!!

Last nights Chapter Study

Early start today. Took my son to the bus stop. Richard my mechanic has just turned up to service the car. I'm expecting it to be very expensive, then what do expect when i travel 80 miles to work and back everyday.

Anyway last night we had a fantastic chapter study lecture on The Gohonzon. I was truly inspired by the experience that was given by a YM. It made me realise that I can achieve anything. It's all about believing in myself. If we harbour doubts we will achieve nothing. It has inspired me to just go for whatever it is i want to achieve. This year is my 'Chance in a Million' and i will be victorious!!!

I'm off to chant now. If you want to know more about the Buddhism I practice go to this website http://www.sgi-uk.org/ http://www.sgi-usa.org/, or send me a message & I'll answer to the best of my capabilities.

First entry

Hi Folks.
Well I've finally succumbed to joining the very popular blogging. it's been a natural progression from Facebook to Twitter to this.
I'm not really sure what I'm doing on this, but I'm sure as time goes by and i start adding things on here it will build into something of interest, and it will be something I'll be able to look back on with pride.
i hope this will inspire others as i take my journey through life as Nichiren Buddhist, doing my Human Revolution.
That's all for now. I have to get ready to go round to chant with my best friend.
